    Relationship with Cognos

Much of the mapping data on the Cognos site are derived from Cognos’ preferred OEM provider for location intelligence, MapInfo Corporation. MapInfo is the leading global provider of location intelligence solutions, driving insightful decisions and deriving greater value for organizations around the world. In addition to providing data for use with Cognos 8, MapInfo has also developed enhanced software solutions which can be directly plugged in to Cognos 8. This additional functionality includes the ability to create geographic filters on the fly and the ability to define custom geographic areas for aggregating data for ad-hoc analysis. For both Cognos 8 and the MapInfo ad-on, MapInfo has made a wide variety of global data available. These data include detailed, accurate streets, political, postal and census boundaries, as well as a number of industry-specific data files, such as communication system boundaries, insurance risk related data, and business list and data files.

    Area of Expertise

The integration of location into daily operations helps organizations achieve significant analytical and operational advantage. Location intelligence is empowering even non-GIS experts to gain the advantage of using location to make more insightful everyday decisions. Location intelligence can help you answer questions such as: Where should the next store be located? Where are sales surging – and where are they not? Where to dispatch emergency crews and what is the fastest route? Where are the best customers – and where to get more of them? Where should assets be placed; such as cell towers or ATM machines? Where are the vulnerable markets to competition? It also can answer “what if” scenarios to help in planning and predicting such as: What if a hurricane occurs in this location? What if a competitor builds a store here? What if demographics in a key market change? By going beyond traditional GIS, MapInfo is enabling businesses, government agencies and educational institutions to find answers and act quickly.
